Do you remember when someone gave you a perfect opportunity?
As Americans, we give thanks this week for the opportunities we have to live, work and play according to our own choices and values. At Melwood, there is much to be thankful for, but much work lies ahead. Melwood is a leader in creating the perfect opportunity and helping people with disabilities by providing on-the-job training and the life skills they need to be independent.
- Deshae found the perfect opportunity to learn a new trade and find not just a job, but a career with which to support his family.
- Sarah found her perfect job and her self-esteem. She has been successful, earning increased responsibilities and promotions.
- Andre, a veteran wounded in a training accident, found his perfect opportunity to continue serving our country through his work.
- Community support helps sustain our programs that make the “perfect opportunity” a reality for Deshae, Sarah, and Andre. They, along with thousands of others rely on Melwood to help earn their own way, learn new activities, train for jobs or lead independent lives.
$80 could supply horticulture therapy materials for one person for an entire year.$250 could provide the dedicated support that enables one person with disabilities to remain in their own home for one week.$500 could provide a robust day camping experience for two children this summer.$600 could provide one worker on Melwood's federal contracts with the employment support they need to remain successful in their jobs for an entire year. $1000 could provide one day’s transportation for 50 people to and from their jobs.
