Melwood Named Employer of the Year
I was honored to accept the 2012 Employer of the Year award given to Melwood by the Prince George’s County Department of Family Services, Mental Health and Disabilities Division and the Commission for Individuals with Disabilities on Thursday.
Those who received awards at the luncheon talked about several important keys to their own success. These included the importance of setting goals and working hard to reach them; of having confidence and being your own advocate; and of finding an employer who provides the same opportunities for people with and without disabilities.
At Melwood, we are yet another key that leads to individuals’ success—a community organization that helps facilitate goal setting, confidence, self-advocacy and the creation of employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Through our Employee Support Services program, which provides job skills and training to individuals in addition to job coaching once employed, we are proud to help empower individuals like those who were recognized at the awards luncheon to reach their goals and be assets to their employer as well as to the community.
The 1,100 individuals Melwood helps reach their own employment objectives each year are the reason Melwood received this award. We thank you all for your hard work, determination and dedication and we promise to continue to work for a world of opportunity and inclusion for people with disabilities.
