How We Help
Melwood offers an array of services that enable people with developmental disabilities to take part in normal community life, in the ways that most people take for granted. Career and job training programs at Melwood provide work options and career goals for people with developmental disabilities. Melwood contract sites with the federal government provide good wages and benefits. People with developmental disabilities live the most fulfilling and independent lives possible with Melwood’s support in their own homes. Support is structured for individuals and for families with a member who has a developmental disability. Melwood offers traditional residential programs and affordable housing options for people with developmental disabilities. Melwood offers exciting choices for recreation, including a travel program for adults with developmental disabilities and a unique summer camp in a wooded rural getaway where children with and without disabilities form friendships in a nurturing environment. Melwood´s Personal Enrichment Program offers adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to participate in community-based activities and perform valuable volunteer service. |

As many as 70% of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities are unemployed or underemployed. Many lack the opportunity to choose where to live or work, and despite their desire to participate in and contribute to their communities, they are often excluded.
