Residential Services

Melwood has enabled people with developmental disabilities to live in comfortable homes scattered throughout pleasant neighborhoods in Charles and Prince George´s Counties for nearly thirty years. Currently, Melwood operates twenty-seven homes.

Charitable donations help support safe, comfortable homes for people with disabilities.

Personalization is the hallmark of Melwood Residential Services. People with developmental disabilities who live in Melwood homes receive personalized assistance with routine tasks around their home according to their needs. This generally includes twenty-four hour staff support, although the amount of supervision is tailored to each person´s specific needs.

Housemates follow their own interests and take part in extensive opportunities for community involvement. Activities range from community chorus, taking art classes, to attending sporting events, or belonging to the church of their choice. On weekends, many housemates visit families and friends. Most housemates are able to save for occasional special vacation programs through Melwood´s Recreation & Travel Program, Access Adventures.

Each home is individually decorated according to the preferences of the residents. All homes receive periodic "overhauls" to keep them looking their best. Melwood´s homes are among the most attractive in their neighborhoods. Melwood maintains a professional property management team to oversee the upkeep and maintenance of each home.
The staff of Melwood Residential Services is highly experienced in the field of developmental disabilities. To provide the best quality of support, our staff includes a specialist in behavior management, a Benefits Manager, two Registered Nurses, and a Health Services Manager. The excellent direct support staff receives extensive and ongoing training in addition to the experience and education they bring to their positions.

For information on enrolling in Residential Services, contact Carmelita Ataviado, Intake Coordinator at 301-599-8000, ext. 256.
