A dynamic nonprofit providing jobs and opportunities for people of differing abilities for over 50 years and counting in the greater Washington, DC area.

Melwood was founded on three key principles: innovation, inclusion and social good. We’re deeply rooted in these principles on which we built a vibrant organization and inspired a community.

Melwood supports children, youth and adults with differing abilities to work and play where and how they choose. We provide employment, job training, life skill improvement, supportive and recreational services to more than 2000 people with differing abilities each year.

Melwood supports opportunities for people with differing abilities to maximize their independence and inclusion in the community.

Individualized programs provide the necessary support to help individuals remain at home with their families, or to live as independently as possible in their own homes. Services are based on one’s individual needs.

People with disabilities interested in learning new skills, volunteering and enjoying an array of stimulating activities are able to do so through several programs at Melwood.

Help our community grow

Children and adults of all abilities have opportunities to enjoy year-round and seasonal recreational activities on site and in the community through Melwood Recreation Center, located in Nanjemoy, Maryland.

Camp Accomplish is a fully inclusive summer camp for children of all abilities. Access Adventures offers small group, community-based vacations and trips for adults with disabilities. The Equestrian Program is designed for riders of all ages and ability levels and features a mix of basic horsemanship and equitation. Finally, the on-site Retreat Center caters to corporate, school and religious retreats, family reunions, executive gatherings and teambuilding workshops from September through May.
