About Melwood

 

About Melwood Melwood is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit created in 1963 to serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Melwood serves more than 2100 people with developmental disabilities in the greater Washington, DC area.

Melwood’s services include:

Melwood offers employment for more than 1000 people with disabilities at more than 70 contract sites around the Washington region.
Melwood´s largest contract is a custodial contract is to serve the entire U.S. Naval Academy, employing more than 150 workers. Among the many other contract sites are the F.B.I. Headquarters, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Smithsonian Museum and Goddard Space Flight Center.

Melwood employees provide custodial services to the US Naval Academy. Melwood seeks training and employment in a wide range of occupations for people with disabilities. Mail handling, office work, reception and store stocking are among the growing number of occupations in which Melwood workers are having great success.

Melwood continues to seek new methods to provide more people with disabilities the crucial careful training they need to become proud and valuable members of the workforce in their communities.

In addition, Melwood operates a training center that graduates more than 60 workers each year, a 108-acre inclusive camp for people with and without disabilities in beautiful Charles County, Maryland, a travel service Access Adventures for adults with disabilities and 32 supported living residences.
